Any workplace where it is reasonably anticipated that employees might encounter bloodborne pathogens will have a Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan. The plan contains the following elements.
Exposure Determination
A list of job titles and tasks covered by the Exposure Control Plan.
Engineering Controls
A list of equipment used to separate employees from risk of exposure.
Work Practices
Specific procedures and practices to be used to protect employees from exposure.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Required PPE assigned to protect employees from exposure risks after engineering controls and work practices have been implemented.
Signs, Labels and Color Coding
Labels used to communicate when biohazards are present.
Hepatitis B Vaccine
Procedures describing how employees are offered and receive the vaccine.
Employee Training and Hazard Communication
Required training on bloodborne pathogens and the precautions implemented to protect employees.
Emergency Procedures
Procedures to follow in an emergency.
Recordkeeping
How and where bloodborne pathogens related records will be kept.
Exposure Control Plan Review
The process for reviewing the plan on an annual basis, and whenever there are new or modified tasks, revised position descriptions, or new technologies affecting exposure.
